I may be sleeping in the RV for a while. Mama is not pleased. I was thinking a little transportation to get us too and from the amusements at Branson, MO.
I kinda feel like a bear on a bicycle. |

| Nice scooter Phil. Last time I was in Branson I found it much easier to take a cab. The Cabbie knows all the short cuts. Or take the bus from the campground the driver knows all the short cuts to. They drive thru a lot of parking lots when the traffic gets heavy. We had a real good time there. That scooter will come in handy in the campground itself. Have fun. |

| Well, I may be regretting this purchase. To register the bike in the state of LA you must have liability insurance. No problem! Right! Well to get insurance you must have a motorcycle endorsement. Ok no problem, right? To get a motorcycle endorsement you must take a written test then demonstrate you abilities on an insured bike. The DMV suggests that I use a friends bike for the test. Problem is if someone was crazy enough to allow me to ride their bike the fact that I don't have an endorsement would void the insurance contract. I plan to talk to the insurance commissioner tomorrow. There has to be some way to get out of this revolving door. |

Hum... Neat, until you're driving in Italy  ... for me I was more worried about hitting all of these crazy buzzing drivers. I just drove normal, but I would have been bumming if I did hit someone. I did enjoy renting one on Block Island a few years back. Not many cars there.

| That will be a ball...I see some around here with all terrain tires and a bit different suspension. I see the good ol boys club out in the state game area, putzin around on two tracks all the time. Looks fun! |

Phil, Check the website below. LA will waive the license exam and riding test if you complete an MSF rider course. There are several locations listed, they may even offer a class specifically for Scooters.
The classes are usually a couple of days long with classroom and plenty of saddle time on a bike. We average 20 miles per class.
It may help your CFO to let you ride it.

Years ago I took my Cycle test on a 50cc Yamaha scooter. The examiner asked if I was kidding and I told him, not at all. This was before the scooter rage. The examiner only had one eye and he sure was looking at me funny with it.

Dan, I am aware of that, but am not interested in spending $300 on the course. I spoke to the insurance commissioner today and everyone knows that the law is circular. You can't get an endorsement without insurance and you can't get insurance without an endorsement.
Now I have talked to a number of 1st time riders who bought insurance without an endorsement stating that the insurance carrier gave them 30 days to comply. I called Harley Davidson of Baton Rouge, and they were a bit sketchy as to how they were getting 30 day waivers when I was told that they did not exist. They were very tight lipped when they realized I knew the facts and offered to allow me to take the riders course for $297. the middle of November. I finally got the number of the agent where one of the riders got his insurance with a 30 day waiver and discovered as I suspected that the agent lied to my friend and the underwriter by telling them he had an endorsement and then telling my friend that he had 30 days to comply. She said the we all know the law is a catch 22 and the only way around it is to put them on the honor system to get the endorsement. "Honor system" based on a fraudulent insurance application? It seems that it takes about 30 days for Progressive, and Geico to process the paperwork and discover that they do not have a license with an endorsement and hopefully by then the biker has obtained his endorsement. No one is hurt unless the hapless biker drives out and runs over a pedestrian... then the insurance company finally gathers up all the paperwork and finds that the operator was misrepresented and the insurance is void. I wrote to my state representative this evening and asked him to do something about it. The state should not be making regulations that require a business selling motorcycles to commit fraud in order to sell a bike to a first time rider. There may be one more legal way around it by writing the policy in the name of an endorsed operator who is not the owner of the bike. |

wow, i figured nys was conservative... but maybe not...
I think a scooter up here requires a driver (car) license...
otherwise its a motorcycle license.. .whole road test and everything...
including, like you say.. someone with a licensed bike to take it on...
but dont you need a LEARNERS PERMIT to take the road test... here you do.. therefore
you are legal with the permit as long as your friend is close by...
therefore not insurance trouble |

| Around here scooters under a certin size requires not even a license. This is why you see them mostly riden by middle aged men who have been busted for DUI. Just the kind of people you want buzzing up and down the street. |

50cc and under need no license in SD. Being 6'2" and over 200lbs on that size scooter I look like I'm riding down the road with a wheel stuck up my bu++. Still fun though.
