had to do some welding for a friend today. its the lift pump for his plow on his truck. cast alum, real fun to weld. lots of rod used on this little jem.

Nice welding Freddie! I take it he lost the broken part & you built it up from nothing. I need someone like you to teach me how to TIG! I just can't get the hang of it that well. It was pretty easy with a MIG.

Crappie does taste better...not sure why bluegill was the first thing that came to mind!

Looks great Freddie. Took some serious global warming to heat that up. Probably stronger than new also. Low quality cast aluminum can be very porous and week.

we call it a roll of dimes. thanks guy's it just came easy for me to learn. lucky i guess
yes the piece was missing so i had to build it all up. running the beads one way and then crossing back over them to make it stronger. kinda like plywood. lapping the beads. thats a copper rod in the center to keep the hole open. after welding when its good and hot i take ice and cool the copper to shrink it and pull out the copper.

Your father was a smart man. Anything that makes the job easier usually saves time. Time is money. Smart man and nice job. My father was a welder by trade and your absolutely right aluminum is not easy to weld.

I think he’s trying to say the end is not parallel with the shaft. From what I see it doesn’t matter. Form fit & function! Damn fine job of welding if you ask me. There are not too many professional shops that would even attempt that type of build up. Good job!
