I keep thinking diesel. Is this worth while or just a waste of money. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-10HP-Diesel-Engine-Electric-Start-Side-Shaft-10-HP-/180652753164?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0fbe410c#ht_7475wt_922

Ok, The little engine turns 3600 RPM. But at Max torque, it drops to 8.6HP@ 3000 rpm.
Are you going to use it for work, or a scooter for your grandkids to play with?

Diesels were made to tinker with... Crank up the fuel, add 4 turbo's and go win tractor pulls!!!

Diesel cost a bit more than gasoline, but you sure get way more work from a gallon of diesel than gas. Not sure how long the better economy would take to pay for the diesel engine though.

I must admit that the torque figures on this engine is not that impressive( about 18+ft.lb at 3000 rpm). I suppose that is the draw back on these short stroke diesels. If the bore vs stroke figures were reversed the torque figures would probably be much higher and max rpm lower.

I noticed it had a glow plug. So I guess that if you buy it, you'll have to design your own glow plug controller since there is nothing connected to it.

I'm sure the above engine comes with the glow plug. You will need a small relay and momentary switch to energize it. Very simple to do.

I'm picking up a CC 149 this week and if it doesn't find a new home before this winter will probably get a diesel conversion. This is the engine that I'm considering for the conversion.

the only thing I have heard bad about these types of engines is that they have inadequate intake air filtration. That of course is an engine killer but I think a decent air filter could be devised.

Mine is not from Carrol Stream, but I am happy with it so far. Granted I've only mowed with it 3 times so far, and I haven't gotten around to hooking up the electric start. It starts every time on the first pull, and seems to have more than enough power. Next time I need to till I'll have to try using the "Franken Bee" and report back how it works. I have a feeling it will spin the belts before it starts to bog down any, from the little use I've had of it.

Also Cvans, when I got mine, I checked with the Cincinnati Fellow first (which is who placed the hoobly ad I think), and they did not have any. I'm not sure if they planned to get more or not as all I got in reply was a simple "No".

Got it of Ebay...no great deal or anything. Should have bought one from the cinci guy, I was hoping to save on shipping and just get it when I was down in that area, but never made it. Then once I was ready to get it, they were out. It is a 10hp Launtop.
