it ran...I took it apart today to see what the knocking is and found it has a loose rod...what a headache getting that head off...I also had to ruin the flywheel because some donkey must have used an impact on it...(It came with a spare though)

also found a small bolt embedded in the underside of the head and lots of damage to the top of the .010 piston...its too bad because judging by the headgasket and freshness of the piston it looks like it was ruined by stupidity after a rebuild

maybe Ill just jam a different engine in there

Skunkhome if you read this I think maybe it'd be better to move this thread to the "other tractors" section...I probably should have posted it there in the first place

i dont think the 12 would be underpowered both Bolens and others put 12 hp engines in that size of tractor, Cub cadet 1200 and 1250 were the same tractor as the 1450, 1650. John Deere put everything from a 8 hp to a 16 in their 200 series, I don't think the JD 212 was underpowered or the Cub Cadet 1250 for that matter

I think up until 72 or so, pretty much all the tractors were 12hp or less, and did plenty of work. I sometimes wonder if we really need more...

That's one of those Kohlers isn't it? You just caught it before it punched the standard inspection window in the side of the block.

i think the poster is talking about Tecumsehs, I've never seen a kohler punch a hole in the block, but hey it probably happens to all brands of engines

this one has a hh150 tecumseh..I was thinking maybe 12 would be underpowered because Im not sure how much the hydro rear uses compared to a gear trans

up here the tecumseh is famous for blowing out the side of the block under the starter....usually right at throttle up or throttle down (just about everyone around here owns a snowblower)

either way its gonna take some rigging because the oh120 I have has different mounting and my oh180 has a tapered shaft adapter that would force me to mount it 2 inches forward for the pulley alignment (I would have to cut out the concave grill section and re-weld it backwards for clearance)

From what I've heard if the governors get out of adjust (rev too high) they tend to blow quick. Gotta be careful on the rpm's, guys that hot rod these machines don't do it's reputation any favors

Those are good engines, if they were taken care of.
