My driveshaft parts finally came in this week so I could try out my Mighty Mac Sprayer. I'm going to remount the pump below the tank to make priming it easier. It was mounted below originally and surprisingly off to the side. I'll make up a spray bar as well. I found this at a car swap meet. I think I paid $25 for it. I had to make up the missing pieces for the 3 point hitch. They are stainless right now but they'll get painted green at some point.
I got my pump remounted below the tank. The alignment with the pto shaft is pretty straight with the spray nozzles at 20 inches high which is what was recommended. When I added a pressure gauge to the discharge piping the needle shock so much it was hard to read. Given that the pump is a piston type this wasn't really a surprise. So I added piece of 1-1/2 x 6 inch pipe that would be full of air to help smooth out the pressure. It helped quite a bit. I've got a start on the boom. It's mounted using a hydraulic pipe clamp which will make it easy to remove and allow the boom to rotate some around the original boom mounting pipe should I hit something. My intent with this sprayer is to use it with Roundup for keeping the weeds from coming up through the gravel driveway at the farm. With that in mind I'm using dry boom nozzles since I don't want the nozzles dripping once I shut off the pump.
I got my valve assembly put together and mounted. I went with individual valves for each nozzle so that when I do the farm driveway, which will take two passes, I can avoid excessive overlap of the center. Plus so long as they don't leak I won't regret having them even if I don't need them. But if I need them and don't have them I'll be mad at myself for not putting them in.
I got the hoses hooked up today. I made them up so that I could adjust the nozzle spacing if needed. I might eventually cut the longer ones down or atleast fasten them to the spray bar. I Did a bunch of test runs with water, two different nozzles types and various pressures and speeds. I'm hoping to put some weed killer in it tommorrow and see how it works out.
