I'm out in the shop putting the chains on my 7117 and they won't fit. What the heck is going on? So I go in the house and call the grand daughter and have her run out and check the tire size on the 3416 that I used to blow with last winter. 23x 8.5x12 Drat! Seems like I had chains on the kubota last winter I wonder were I put those at. Now I have to decide, do I want 12" wide tires on the loader or the snow blower. I have an extra set of wheels and tires for the Kubota so I'm leaning toward the wide tires on that. The 7117 is sure going to look goofy with those skinny 8.5" tires on it though. Maybe I should just sell the narrower chains and get another set of wide ones. Hate to do that as they only have one season on them.

The height should be the same or close it's just the width and lots of times that isn't that noticeable especially when you're cruising through 12" of fresh snow or glare ice and not getting stuck.

Well I went out this morning and put the 8.5" tires on and everything seems OK. Of course one of the 8.5" tires has a leak so now I get to take it off again and place a tube in it. 3 out of 4 valve stems leaked also. I placed the 12 inch chains on the Kubota. Now Now I can leave the chains on the tires and just change in the spring. The problem is going to be remembering where I put everything.
I read on another forum last year where a guy took a length of bicycle chain and place it around the center of his front tires. Then he re-inflated the tire to hold the chain in place. He said it really helped keep the front tires from sliding during turns and when moving snow along a slope. I think I'm going to give this one a try also and see if it will keep the front end from sliding off the edge of the sloped driveway.

I don't know about the bike chain but I am going to try a 40 or 50 chain on my 620,the limited slip rear likes to steer in the snow

Your really only losing about a inch maybe a little more, most 10.50 wide tires are only about 9.50 to 9.75 wide on the 8 inch rims, plus the narrow tires will actually work better in snow, versus "flotation" tires.

I do think it's worth trying especially if the stuff needed is just laying around anyway. I hope it works for us.

Let me know about the bicycle chain idea. I have the wider front tires off of a B212 on my B210 and I am wondering how they will do in the snow this year versus the original narrow 4.80x8.00 that were on last year.

I'm using AG tires up front on two tractors, and tri-ribs on another, I'll let you know how those do.
