Finally found a Sickle close enough to home to run after. Momma even agreed to put 5 hours on the road with me to get more tractor stuff! I sold my blower yesterday, and turned the cash into this beauty! As far as I can tell, it's an earlier version, with the lift bar, and is a 990210 equivilent, based on the 101029 on the frame. Not sure...

It's needs a little cleaning, and some lube, but I think it's all there, and I'm ready to get after some CRP. I pull the belt by hand, and everything is free, with no bearing issues or bent/busted teeth. Any tips or suggestions welcome. I haven't even looked into how it hooks up, or how to run one. Just glad to get it home!

Would it be easy convert to a cable lift on this? Any pics of the cable setup would be appreciated!

I tip! Leave your dog at home when using this mower. When cycle mowers were more common there was an awful lot of two and three legged dogs around. Makes me squeamish just thinking about it.
Nice find by the way!

Great find. The biggest and most important tip I can give you is to NEVER exceed 1/2 throttle or you will shake it apart. Many who have exceeded this limit find the cutter bar broken into two pieces or the heim joints knocked out.

Looks like you got a pretty good one there. Most no longer have the swath board with them and yours looks to be complete! The operators manual is still available from the Simplicity site.

Thanks! Yeah, I saw it in the background of a photo in a craigslist ad for a '67 Landlord. Come to find out, the owner bought it from the original purchaser.

The tractor was for sale with all the attachments that were originally bought with it. The owner had actually grown up next door from the original purchaser, used the tractor as a child for neighborhood mowing, and now lives in the house he bought from the first owner's widow. He talked her into selling the tractor and attachments with the house 15 years ago. He had a barn full of old Wheel Horses, Simplicities, etc. and said he was too old to keep up with them now. He really wanted to keep this one with all it's original attachments, but wasn't getting any takers. Real nice guy, just happy to hear it was going back into use! Even gave me a new belt with it...

Tractor was in good shape and still has Simplicity vaccuum and trailer, 42" blower, dozer, 32" tiller, front weight (should have taken that too), wheel weights and 42" mower deck. Said he put $$$ into the motor last year and it runs like new.

Good find! Wish I had one. I see them on Ebay every once in awhile but they go for over $350 or more, which is outta my price range!

The guy said no to selling it separate at first, but I garanteed him I would be putting it to work, and he said $150 would take it. SOLD!

I'm so excited!

Anyone know if I can work with different pulleys to keep my rpm's up on the machine, yet keep the speed of the sickle low enough to prevent failure?

I went through, cheked all my joints, and lubed her up. Hookup to the tractor was a peice of cake! I do need to rig up a cable lift, though, as this thing is heavy when using the bar. It fired right up and seemed to operate well, however, to Simplelife's point, that thing moves FAST! I was at quarter throttle, and wasn't comfortable moving it any faster. I'm using the small PTO pulley. That should give me less speed, correct? I still would like to slow it down, so I can get the tractor moving.

What tractor do you have it hooked up on? Small outboard pulley is correct for the sickle bar. Why don't you post some detailed pictures of your setup.

Is there a source for new knives and stone guards? I have 2 knives at the tip of my bar that are loose so I need to address that before next use.

I will try to get some pics up soon. Tonite will be a wash, as we have some family stuff to attend. I will also try to document my fabricatioin of the pulley-lift conversion. I have it on my B110 right now, and have been collecting images to figure out where the support chains go, as well as where decals will go when I clean it up this winter.

I'm not sure where to get parts...I'm looking myself! This is in good shape, but I'd love to have a least a spare rock gaurd and knife section. I had seen a member over on simpletractors that mentioned he manufactured replacements and rivets for these, but I'm having a hard time finding that old post now. Will let you know...

I know you're excited and all about the great find and you should be. However, I see where you want to speed the tractor up and such. Bad idea. No matter what these are considered an antique in every sense of the word. It is a relic from a time gone by. I know it looks like a heavy duty piece but if it's not operated at the best of conditions for it you'll be unpleasantly surprised. You cannot get parts for them or at best they are very hard to come by. Haban, the manufacturer went out of business many years ago and all parts are or were obsolete many years before they went out of business. Like Mike said, operate it at the slowest possible speed you can unless you plan on setting it up on a shelf once it breaks. They will literally shake themselves to death at any speed eventually, the slower the better in this case. Phil, I've seen where you can get knives At Tractor Supply that can be heavily modified to work but then there are no rivets that work well with attaching them so it's a trip to a machine shop that will be willing to take on such a small task that it's not worth their while and will want big bucks just to get you out of their hair to send you on down the road in search of something you're not going to find without a major expenditure.

This is where the chain is attached on my B112. I believe the chain is only supposed to have tension on it when the mower is in the raised position.
