Well, I am finally starting to take my sons Broadmoor apart and put it on the new frame (this is the one the PO welded together making it useless since the frame won't pivot). Since it is also a very peachy orange color I will also be repainting everything as I go. Starting with the back end, will clean it up, repaint it, and assemble it before moving on. Hopefully this turns out alright, never done this before.

Wow! Thanks Phil, that Duplicolor DE1607 is a great match. Below is a picture comparing original (upper left) and then the PO's peachy orange and a stripe of the DE1607. My daughters also wanted to help, as you can see from the bottom photo.

I have painted a few pieces and when I touch them my hands come off with a little color on them. This is after they have sat a couple days (the pieces, not my hands). Is there a finishing product I should use, did I do something wrong, is this normal? |

It might be that you have some grease or oils on the metal that you painted over, and the paint never adhered to the tin. You should use a degreaser prior to painting to ensure that the surface is oil and dust free. |

So use a degreaser, rough it up a bit, clean, dry, then paint? That sound like a good order? I want to get it right. Thanks for the advice. |

some of those paints have to be re-coated within x number of minutes or you have to wait a week to put on subsequent coats. |

No. Rough it up (i.e., sand it) - clean it, and then use a degreaser to get the remaining dust and residue off, and then paint.

Alrighty, coming along at a steady pace. Taking the old apart only as I can clean and paint the newer one. I just got the engine off and I think I will work on the upright with the gas tank cleaning and painting that next to install.

I love the pic of the daughters playing their DS's. My boys each have one and it seems like they never get shut off! |

Got alot of work done today. Took an extra day off and feel accomplished. I haven't painted the rear body or the hood yet, still building up the courage. Almost done mechanically.
