I picked this up from a elderly gentleman here in town. He advertised it on Crag's list as a cast iron 10 hp engine. He says he can not figure out what it is though he used it for years to power his hammer mill mulcher. He says it runs well. I thought it was a Tecumseh but don't know. I gave the fellow $25. The only marking I can find externally are these.
The screwed on tag at the left reads "348-P"
The engine is heavy but only stands 15" tall at top of plug and about 4.5" at the center of the crank. If it is a 10 horse it is extremely compact.
So, what do I have?

| Tecumseh HH series. Just looking I can't tell whether or not it's a 10hp or 12. One or the other. Supposed to be a tag riveted on right side of flywheel shrouding under air cleaner. That's where model #'s would be. Thing is if it hasn't been removed. Others may have #'s stamped on top of shroud. HH100 or HH120. Stroke is same between, but bore larger on 12. |

| Either 10 or 12hp it's a dang good buy! Those HH series are good property, the Roper built Sears tractors used them and they have several loyal fans. |

| If you have to pull the head to find out engine size, the HH100 is 3 5/16" bore and the HH120 is 3 1/2" bore. |

| There is a problem. The engine has 4 blind holes in the bottom of the pan for mounting and one has been punched out, probably by too long a screw and the PO put in a set screw wrapped with teflon tape. It still seeps a bit. If I sneaked the pan off could I get that hole brazed up. I also noticed that the "z" mount brackets I typically see on the HH are not present. I am sure I could have them fabricated if I knew the dimensions. |
