Here's one a long time in the making...I picked this old girl up a little over a year and a half ago. I've always been interested in the Wards machines, and just HAD to have this one when it was offered up on the east side of the state. It was pretty sound, and with the exception of a boogered up hood, had nice steel. The 23D would fire, good enough for me. Included the Bronze deck, and it sat until this past winter.

With the lack of snow, I decided to dig it out of my parent's barn, and tear into it. 45 minutes later I had a lot of dirty parts strewn about. Uninterested in the deck at the time, I wanted to redo an attachment with the machine, and decided on a Carryall I had picked up from the estate of Maynard Greenwood. (I hope he approves of the new color!)

Got everything sandblasted, and then worked with VanSickle to match the OEM color (plus some added metal flake).

I pulled the Wards decals with a heat gun and sent them off to Nate @ clickitandstickit, then we sorted through the various LL decals they already offered to get a correct set for the Squire 9 & 10 (I added a couple custom pieces to mine...needed a hood badge!).

About this time, life happened, and things got put on hold. I'd paint a bit when I could, and when the weather allowed. Since we're now in limbo between selling and closing on our old/new houses, and my basement was buried in finished tractor parts, I decided to slap her together before moving begins (easier to transport as a roller, than as boxes of parts)

The Carryall turned out beautifully...couldn't be happier. This should make a nice butt-buggy for next summer's shows (assuming I can get away here and there, and that a carseat can be strapped in sufficiently)

So that's where I stand this week. My spark was so-so before, and I've since snapped off the plug wire, so I'm converting to a battery ignition for now, vs spending time and lots of $$ on a replacement coil for the 23D. I hope to grab a coil today, wire things in, and add the final 5 panels to her over the weekend, but it's a busy one for us, so that might be a stretch. Heck, it might even run =]

Gave "Larry" a bath...before and after. Could use a little more scrubbing but i did scrub off a bit of paint and quit.

Congrats on the new house and property. The house, the garage, the other garage looks outstanding. I know you must have more attachments than you can easily store, and I'm willing to help you in that regard. Time is running short on the move so I hope all is well.

The weed cutter you referred gave me no response. Probably sold locally and he had no desire to ship. The search continues. I'll be following the homemade build on here as a probable way to get one.

I have a laundry list of things to do, and I'm not sure insulating the 2nd garage is in the cards right now. I would like to, but the initial plan is to add forced air heat to the main garage, which is insulated. I'll have a workbench in there as well, and am anticipating mid winter projects to take place there. I would like to utilize the both attics, and will be covering the ceiling joists to allow storage and hold down some heat. I'm about as broke as I've ever been now, so things will have to happen slowly. That second garage is decked out with water, drain, 100amp service, 220 for my welder and at least a dozen 110 outlets, and is setup to backfeed the house with generator power.

Leaves are certainly an 'issue' which will be quickly remedied by that PECO vac system I just grabbed off craigslist. It does a great job, and is great seat time during one of my favorite seasons. It's better suited for more horsepower, but if I go slow, the 10 does just fine. I could regret it, but right now, I'm telling folks I love the leaves (never had trees at my previous place...now I have 2 acres of them).

The pics were taken after the first load of tractors...3 more machines have since joined, and I still need to bring over 2 more plus a Wonderboy RER and walkbehind. The attachments will be 2 trailer loads alone. I have 9 days to get all that stuff out of the rented storage unit (but I'm NOT complaining!) =]

That is a nice setup. I can see now that you are going to have serious leaf wars every fall. More seat time. Do you anticipate plans down the road of insulating the second garage and making an cozy shop for winter projects.

the garage space looks so big now...
I'm wondering how long it will be until it doesn't look so big.
Congrats!

BTW, are those 3 in the attached garage? Wow,
that would never fly in my world...
I would be 'corrected' very quickly..... :)

I did manage to get some more space =] We're closed on both homes now and moving stuff every day after work (got 20 days to be out of the old). I'd say I'm at about 50% moved in after last nite's run. The places are about 20 minutes apart. Weather looks terrible for the weekend, so I'll be painting indoors quite a bit, and plan to begin building shelving for attachments in the second garage.

The Squire is now among friends!

Good luck with the closings. I don't know what you're buying but, you'll probably need a bigger shed.

So when do/did you move and where to?

haha...no more roll-overs for me. I'm still sore as hell from last weekend. Finally broke down and took a vicodin last nite so I could sleep. Looks like a Dr visit in the very near future. We should close on both houses by week's end (finger's crossed)

Definitely nice job Josh. I like the dash chrome look. Didn't notice if you mentioned where you got those materials.

Clickitandstickit made up the decals for me. I sent them originals removed from the machine, and many of them were same as '64 LL decals.

Thanks fellas...it is fun work, and I can't sit still anyway. More good news...she ran a little rough prior to tear down, and after busting the coil, I had my doubts on how much it would take to get her purring. To my delight, yesterday I adjusted the points, added a splash of petro, turned the key and hit the button...no more djustments needed! Runs great..I didn't even have to adjust the clutch or brake.

I ran her around and snapped a video clip. =] Momma interupted before I got to the low idle portion, but it runs great with no smoke or noise (hood was loose and rattled a bit in the video...had a plug wire that kept popping off during the test ride). Need to fix a sticky foat, redo my mid PTO and we're in business!

You are truly talented Mr. Green. You have obviously put a lot of effort and money into this restoration. Nice job of hiding the coil.
