Posted - 07/31/2009 : 01:47:54 Hey ya'll.
Well I've been busy a bit for the past few weeks (Months) making a custom motorized bicycle.
It was a old Hiawatha cheapie (Brand name, made cheap, sold everywhere) so I desided to use it for a different propose. After many days of cutting and grinding and welding it finally started to take shape.
The engine on it is a partially rebuilt 1953 Briggs and Stratton 6S.
Take a look and tell me what you think. It needs to be finished, cleaned a bit and painted but its ride-able and trust me that its fun to ride.
After taking it up to my families cabin for a week and a half of fun, I came home and did a few changes to make it for comfortable.
Here it is now...
Its a fun project and you can follow my build here... http://ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17327#p175510
I also have a video up on youtube of me riding it. Here is the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6zvjcZLhBk
Well, I'm off. Take care everyone. Mark- |

Posted - 07/31/2009 : 23:12:57 It does have a welded double rim on the back and I use that for the drive. It works pretty good but sometimes when turning sharply to the left you grind on that rim. I plan on extending the exhaust back with a 2" piece of electrical conduit. Its light pipe and the larger diameter will make the engine sound better :D
In this little short vid you can see the drive system a bit better. Foot engaging clutch |

Daniel, looks like he used a jack shaft to get across from the left.
Mark, it looks like fun.
Look close Keith...drive V-belt to wheel is on the left. Mark...I love the "stinger" exhaust! |

Posted - 07/31/2009 : 08:53:52 By law, since I don't have pedals I have to get a moped license for it, but I have plans to stretch the frame about 5" so I can mount a set of pedals on there (That work) so it would be a motor assisted bicycle (No license needed in the state of WI)
I didn't really build it to ride it around a lot here at home. Mostly for tractor shows and up at my familys cabin (Which I might move up there if I can find a job in that area). |

Posted - 07/31/2009 : 08:02:01 Mark, do you have to license that bike. Here in LA you have to register and license any bike that has a motorized assist (even an electric helper motor). I was considering a helper motor on my bike until I discovered that. |

Posted - 07/31/2009 : 05:56:07 to cool. only mods I liked to do was making choppers out of them "no engines just your feet." I extended the forks and dropped them, used push scooters wheel for the front. "the thing that looks like a skate board with 2 wheels and a T handle for your hands." |
