No mowing stripes yet but my home built roller does a nice job.

Nice looking roller that looks very similar to the one I made. Used an anhydrous Ammonia vessel with a 3/8" steel wall and curved ends. Rounded ends work nice for not leaving ridges as you probably know. I need to redo the hitch on mine as I was in a hurry and use uni-strut and angle iron and it is not heavy enough for rough work.

Chris; mine is nowhere near 3/8 wall. I made it from an old hot water heater. Cut it down to 36in. and reversed the bottom from concave to convex and welded it back into the cylinder. Tongue however is heavy wall 1in. tube and I used pillowblock bearings on a 3/4in. axle.Axle goes completely through the cylinder to make a rigid assembly out of the tongue. I have about $30 and 5 hrs invested in it.Last Sat. I built a similer one for a friend of mine so he won't be borrowing mine anymore!!!!....Dave

Mine is a little larger. Going from memory here but 48 x 24 rings a bell. It works good behind a larger GT or 4 wheeler. Anything smaller would have a time of it. Used it to roll the airfield and yard in the spring. Works good on the gravel drive anytime after a rain. Here is something you might want to try. After tilling and dragging your garden go over it with the roller. It will look like a parking lot and it made it real easy to lay out the garden. The Earthway planter worked nicely and I plan to do it again this year.
Your tongue looks a lot nicer than mine. When mine gets redone I'm going to put a scraper on it to keep the roller from collecting dirt and gravel. It's a pain to clean off if it's damp outside.
