Okay larry,heres the pics u requested.As far as i can tell i already have the engagement lever,shaft,and safety switch so i just need everything else.Do i use dexron mercon 3 for the trans fluid,opened the reservior up and its bone dry lol

Yup, I see what you need. You use Dexron III in the hydro, and Gear Oil in the bGB and axle. Is the hydro working like that? Awfull low.

it turns freely but i havent got it runnin yet so ill have to fill it up before hand,i was gonna change it anyhow

You should change the filter too. It is in the bottom of the reservoir. The Wix number is 51467, any auto parts store should be able to cross that to what they have.

Better hurry! I would flush that too. Need 1 gallon ATF. take the upper hose off the reservoir, its the return line. Point it at a pan or bucket. Take the filter out. Fill the reservoir to about one inch from the return line hole. start engine and pour ATF in reservoir to maintain level untill fluid coming out of hose is nice and clear. There is no high pressure there. the volume coming out will be less than what you would get from a garden hose with no sprayer on it.

shouldnt you do it with the filter in though???
or even the new filter installed?
of course... when you change any filter youll always get yuck...
ohhhhhh... scarrryyyyyy... . im just too paranoid

Opinions vary, BUT, when you remove the filter, yucky goes straight in to the hydro, so I figure flush it through just as fast as possible.

I guess to really do it right, if the fluid is contaminated....

Remove all hoses, cooler, and reservoir. Flush and clean them thoroughly.

put two hoses on the hydro, put a clean funnell on the inlet hose, route the hose from the return to a bucket, fill funnell, start engine and run a quart or so into the funnell. Reassemble everything.

I just made that up and I wouldn't do it unless I knew there was something gritty in there.

Actually, if there was something abrasive in the fluid, the hydro would already be on its way out.

yeah the person i got this from said itd been a couple years since it ran because the float messed up in the carb and they couldnt find parts,i cant wait to get it runnin again

well i took ur advice larry and flushed the hydro and changed the filter,filled the bgb and axle with gear oil,gonna wait to change the oil in the engine when its runnin so itll drain easier when its warm,gotta put a new gasket in my carb too so little by little ill get her runnin lol

It will be well worth it, the 3400 hydros are among the very best Simplicity ever designed/built, and in my opinion as good an all around GT as ever built.

A Cadillac or Lincoln no matter how you slice and dice it.
