well me and the nieghbor were drinking beer and i have apple tree's and, well i never realy did anything with them but feed the deer. so we got together and brain stormed something to do with the kids. so i welded up a frame and he built the box and tray. and i made it so it would work off my tractor. heres a short vid of the test run. this weekend we will be making fresh apple juice.
we made a crusher to grind the apples first.
this was a two day project to get this going. I LOVE BEER

Cider! I like the crusher but the press looks like a lot of work. How do you keep the belt tight?

hard cider is not for me just beer larry.
the belt stays tight by the brake on the tractor and there are two pegs that go into the ground on the crusher/press.

the box for the press is all oak and took him about an hour and half to make.
the kids love apple juice and so do i.

I like my cider with Rum, and plenty of it. Speaking of which, we're heading to camp tomorrow for the bow opener, and I need to pick a gallon of rum up if we're going to make it through teh weekend =] (Neighbors press their own cider too..YUM)

And then there's the Oktoberfest...

You need to rig up a press that utilizes a ramp so you can drive a second tractor up and over to do the pressin...get all your weights on there too. =]

I stick to beer myself, but if a jug of cider goes hard in my fridge I'll still drink it. Just not for breakfast.

This is the only time of year somethin other than Beer is packed in my cooler...I do love hard cider, and have tasted a few fantastic homebrews in recent years. I have a co-worker making 20 gallons from scratch right now...he thinks about 3 more weeks, and he'll be ready to share =]

Needless to say, Cider is fantastic, and I put my share away...it's a staple of Autumn!

The box press is quaint but I think it would be cool to have a set of rollers under your grinder Powered by your tractor that would squeeze the apples much like a cane press.
