Sammy, what part of the country do you live in with all those Lexington tractors all about. |

Im in Upstate NY near Syracuse.
Well, I picked her up... I almost didnt... but she needed to be rescued badly from a bad bad man....
She starts and runs well... no major smoke from the little time I spent with her running. To sum it up... she needs some wiring... the original key switch had been replaced with a different switch (the orig are NLA but you can use a briggs switch wired differently but i cant tell how this one is wired) The nice bonus is that the PO had obtained a NOS switch (still shiny in the box) which came with the deal. You cant really see it in the pic but the electric PTO belt tensioner at the bottom left corner of the grill had the threaded rod repaired with a longer rod... so now there is about a 1' hole drilled in the grill to allow it to stick out. The seat is in excellent condition. Brand new front tires. good sheet metal... blah, blah, blah...
BUT... the PO had said "there was something wrong with the front variable pulley and it moves VERY SLOWLY" Ok, I figured it needed adjustment or maybe even a new pulley... uhhh, no... that wasnt it... I have never seen anything like this abuse obviously the bearings on both sides of the transverse shaft of the BGB were GONE... and he ran it... half the shaft was "lathed" down... I couldnt believe the thing still moved and didnt make more noise... there is an inch of flop... the BGB is completely toast... torn apart... I imagine the casting is destroyed as well... and probably damage to the front of the variable as well... HOLY MOLY...
I really have to take pics of the mayhem.. you wouldnt believe it... so... either I am looking for a BGB and maybe some parts of the front variable or I make one tractor out of the somewhat complete 312D I have in the barn (which I think all it needs is a starter to be a runner) along with this 314D... uhhh... |

Wow, that does sound like someone didn't even care. Good luck with it, whichever direction you decide to go. Keep us posted... |

Hey Sammie could you take a close-up plcture of the chain and spring that runs from the grille to the snow blower hitch? I see yours has two sets, one on each side. Mine only came with one chain and spring, and it's sash chain.... Btw nice 314.....
Thanks, Dan |

Bummer on the bad BGB. Stinks that someone can abuse something like that and expect it to take care of itself with out any pm's. Looking forward to the pics though!
Hows the weather in CNY? Snowing here again....(big surprise)

Dan, I think you must have an original because it was a sash chain... I have an original rusty set but... I needed better... I bought springs from Home Depot... and the chain as well...
the springs in the pic above have been installed in reverse... the spring goes on the blower then the sash chain thru the bracket on the tractor. the original had a little bent rod thru the chain that would fit thru the bracket hole but served as a a grab place to pull the tension then pinned in place with a standard clevis. I didnt re-bend the pull rod but keep a rod in my tool box so each year I can pull the chain tight... i usually go 3 links below after the blower is raised...
been snowing on and off since the wknd... we did get a 33 degree thaw yesterday and today though. |
