The following post is the project of Aligning a 1999 Mercury 502 Engine into a Formula Fastech 271. It is the original engine that was in the boat, except that the transom mount needed to be replaced. Since replacing the transom mount and reinstalling the engine, the alignment of the offshore mount would no longer accept the alignment tool inserted into the splined coupler mount on flywheel of the engine. This post will walk through the initial alignment of this engine and will be updated as the engine is finally aligned.
1) This video is showing the alignment tool actually getting into the engine, but the engine is not bolted down yet. After clamping the offshore mount to the aluminum mounts in the boat, the alignment tool no longer fits into the engine.

12 I got this advise from a boat specialist "Brand new transom assy, did he also change the bell housing on the engine?, the bushings in the inner transom plate are different from what they were when his boat was built, he will most likely need to change the rubber bushings in the engine bell housing". Now I am researching this and hopefully I don't have to pull the engine.
