My second oldest, Olivia(who is 11) has been asking all summer to help mow. I let her mow tonight with her 616 and she did pretty good! The lines are pretty straight. I'll tell ya though, it was not easy walking with her with that mower deck operating. I was on the constant lookout for flying debris. Anyway, I thought she did pretty good for her first attempt!

You'll never forgive yourself if you dont video this and youtube it. New Gopro Hero 5 is due out Oct. 2nd and it's $100 less than I paid for my Hero 4.

hay derrick

That's not something I've ever seen in this neck of the woods. I've bucked hay and put it up in the hayloft.

When I was eleven I was plowing with a Massey Harris 44 diesel, and running a self propelled combine with a 12 foot (big at the time) header. I was driving the tractor pulling a wagon or slip for haying and picking corn (by hand) and running the tractor for the hay derrick. I was by the place where I grew up the other day and the old derrick is still there, but they don't use them any more because of the newer bale handling equipment.

Time for the payoff. My daughter of 34 years mowed with my tractor for the very first time the other day. She had trouble getting used to not using the clutch with the shuttle.

Think back Jon sure you were real interested in school work at her age. Wish mine would have shown interest back then. Oh yeah nice strip too

I hear ya, I was probably mowing by her age but it still worries me. It will be a while before I let her do it without me being out with her. And I love how she was so involved with the tractor show this year, helping my dad and brother with their steam tractor. She was so impressed when a craftsman mad a wooden hammer from two blocks of wood, watching him use a lathe and all the other equipment to create this out of two blocks. She was fascinated by it. Now, if only she was as fascinated with her schoolwork!! :)

A kid who wants to do constructive things? That's one to be proud of! My oldest is only two and a half and I'm already having a hard time letting him do more grown-up things. It's hard to let go.

Kids can do a lot more than we think for. Tell her she did a nice job on that yard.
