Howdy all. My mower deck to PTO belt looked a little ragged so I ordered a new one from Sandy Lake Implement. My dilemma is the belt absolutely will not go over the larger of the two PTO pulley's which is where my old belt ran. The new belt will only go over the smaller pulley. Does anyone know if the original belt was on the smaller pulley or the larger pulley. Thanks for your time. Gerard

I always forget to release that darn belt tensioner. I'll bet that's the problem.

You have the wrong belt obviously. The smaller pulley is for the sicklebar mower. Often mowers and PTO's are all mixed and matched after 40 years. The belt should be an easy slip over the pulley with the belt tensioner released. Take your old belt to autozone and measure it then get a new 4L belt a couple if inches longer and also the next size up. Try both belts and take back the one that don't fit. As I said, the proper size should slip over the sheave without much effort. Then tighten up when the tensioner lever is raised. If you have to work it over the pulley it is too tight and will lead to premature failure of the center arbor bearings. Also as mentioned the the belt going from the BGB output shaft down to the PTO cross shaft could be wrong. The mower drive belt on my B112 using my 990885 42" deck ( deck off my 3414) was 53" (4L530) while the BGB to PTO cross shaft was 32 or 34".

the bigger one but if your BGB to counter shaft belt is not OEM then its possibly the problem the one you took off is it the same as you got? and yes it should go on the larger of the two on the double pulley. had the same problem before. easy fix.
