What model tractor?
uglyallis21 Posted - 03/01/2013 : 23:12:39
i got it shifting without the grinding noise but now it doesnt seem to have as much power as it did before it seems that the drive belt is slipping,if i drive into a snow bank the tires just stop moving and it makes a loud screach noise normally once you hit the snow bank the tire would spin out when you couldnt push anymore,i also got some silicone on the pulley but i drove it around for maybe 15 minutes so i dont think thats the problem cause i feel it would have worn off by then

I would resist jamming it into gear as that will end up bending the shifting forks. That tractor are we talking about? There is a delicate balance with the brake/clutch mechanism on all these geared tractors and some are more touchy than others. If you don't have the manual, get one on line and adjust the brake and clutch according to the directions. Grinding of gears can be that the belt guard(s) over the pulley on the BGB is maladjusted and is not providing the proper drag on the belt when the clutch is depressed.

well i fixed the problem with the shifter sticking i think but now every time i tr to put it in gear it grinds rweally loud intil i just slam it in,it was doing this with that little screw know used for the parking brake off of it i now put it on and havent tried it yet could the parking brake not be installed cause this or maybe the brake band is to tight?

okay, the thimble does pivot completely i took the whole assembly out and cleaned all the grease of as a lot of grass in dirt was in there too should i spray wd40 or silicone on all the moving part in the brake assembly, also the little rod that conects the front part of the assembly to the back where the idler wheel isb by the transimmison spring also i think has the whole that the rod sticks into worn down where there a small wgole stating to create in the back wich i fell could be bind up the rod and stoping it from sliding back, chould i re drill the whole to make it more round?

I would not grind it but you might try draw filing it. Draw filing (you lay a mill bastard file flat across the rod and draw it towards you) will remove high spots and burrs without removing a lot of material. Then sand with 400 grit crocus cloth. I would make sure that the thimble pivots freely so that it can't bind on the rod.

yeah the clutch rod with the sprin that pulls agains it maybe thats my problem i feel like its just getting stuck in the thimble so i try to loosen it and if that doesnt work could i grind the rod down a litlle and just put grease on it?

Gear shift rod or clutch rod? If it is the clutch rod, is the thimble it goes through loose enough that it will pivot with the rod?
