Well I just picked up and mounted a Simplicity Sickle mower on my 3012. This is the 1st Simplicity one ive seen. I see alot of AC ones. I paid 125 for it. Im having a little trouble with the raising the sickle. Its a manual lift. I can only get it so high and the handle seems too close to the tractor so something isnt right. IS there away to pust a chain on it? I mounted the handle like I see alot of the pics are on here. it seems the belt guard is in the way. Any help would be aprreciated. Ill add pics tomorrow. I took some tonight but it was too dark.

Pics. Does anyone know the belt size on the drive belt?

Yeah, either type of lift is more or less for working around obstacles, etc, while in the field as Phil points out. Neither lifts real high, but the cable lift type is far easier to work with. The manual lift type has two positions for the lift handle....only one is reachable from the seat. The transport chain was used for both types, and makes mounted storage far easier as well. Here is a not-so-good picture of that chain in use. I've only seen a few OEM chains, but anything would work, and I'd recommend something/anything.

As far as I can see the lifts are only for manipulation in the field. To make them compact enough for transportation you have to have a transportation chain or strap. I use a nylon strap with hooks.

Good price. Both the Simplicity and Allis sickle bars were identical, and made by Haban

I had an early manual lift sickle bar, and it only lifted part way with the handle, and it was pretty crowded, especially against the foot rest. I made a chain to hold it up for transport, but I think it was supposed to have its own, which was missing. Nice unit but I ended up passing it to a serious collector and getting a later sickle bar that uses the tractors lift.

Good luck
