Posted - 05/30/2012 : 15:12:04 I broke a spring on NY Rt. 7 on the far side of Albany. Was overloaded and going fast. Hit 3 storm drains in a row where there was 3+ inches of pavement higher than the actual grate. I jacked it up and stuck a 2x4 on top of the axle to keep the tire from rubbing on the fender, and poundede a phillips head screwdriver throgh the top of the deck to "spike" it in place and successfully drove 70 miles home. I had about 600 square feet of very wet 5/4 pt decking on it. I think about 2k.
I have abused this trailer for 14 months now, and I expected the passenger side tire would be the first to go. 2 months out of warranty and a clear case of mis-use.
Actually, the rural roads in norethern NH constitute "severe duty"
Tractor supply connected me with Carry On, who promptly shipped me the correct spring, no charge under warranty. Took 5 business days. I think I scared the rep with my tale of the 2x4 getting home. LOL I do what I have to.
TSC says they will get parts, no problem for the Cub Cadets they sell. I have NO intention of putting THAT to the test!!!!!
ut two thumbs up for TSC and Carry On Trailer.

Yeh, you dont have our frost heaves and related winter damage to roads.
True, true but we do have heat buckling that can rattle the teeth out of your head. |

Posted - 05/30/2012 : 21:30:31 Glad you made it home safely Larry. I'm surprised they warranteed the spring. Leaf springs that break out side the U bolts indicate overloading or fatigue, when they break at the center bolt or between the U bolts it indicates improper torque. Don't forget to re-torque after you use it again.

Posted - 05/30/2012 : 19:46:00 The extreme recoiling in such rapid succession is definitely what got the spring. Great to hear they stood behind their product. Rare these days. |

Wow, I have bent springs before but never broke a leaf spring. My Pro-Pull that is built locally has a GVWR and GAWR of 3500 lbs. Honestly I thought your trailer was heavier than mine. I definately would like to have the 10x6 bed. Sounds like Carry On stands behind their products

Yep, Carry On seems to care, TSC as well. |

The axle is 2400 Tires are about 2200 Trailer is registered for 2000 but can be upped to 3000 The trailer weighs about 400, so with the spare and tool box I can haul 1500 on the trailer and another 1000 on the pickup, which is all I would want on the NE hills without more brakes. |
