Posted - 05/16/2012 : 22:16:56 I got grass spriged in my yard around the house last week and have been running my homemade drag (a 4'x4' piece of expanded metal with bridge planks tied on for weight) and them I hooked the Gill Spike up to make some holes for the water to run in. Mainly just wanted to drag it around to see how it did. It works really well, especially on my hillside I planted last fall

Posted - 05/17/2012 : 06:59:50 What a playground! Really though, I cannot begin to imagine the amount of work that I'm looking at there. Very nice job. The old house is neat...love the wrap around porch. Are you living there, or is it a concurrent project? |

Posted - 05/17/2012 : 00:01:07 Phil, the house was built in 1917. My great-grandparents bought it in 1945. The grass around the house got scraped off with a boxblade. I removed almost 3' of dirt from the East side (front of tractor in pics above). The yard had long slope going right towards the house and on the other side of the house had a dropping slope about 6' down in 20' that I extended out about 10' from the house before sloping down. I have had 96 truck loads of dirt brought in at about 14 yards a load. Here are some pics: This is when I started, where I am standing is about the level of the top of the red brick on the porch pillars. It is now the level with the bottom of the porch
Here is the start of cutting the yard. The mound in the middle of the yard was the depth of the cut at that point. Still went down about another foot there
Here is the back of the property looking towards the house.
Same place after clearing
Same place after starting the carport/tractorport.
This is standing at the back, west side of the house looking towards the back of the property. Most of this is the dirt I had brought in. This was after I spriged the hillside last fall. The tree to the left is buried 3'. I know it's not good for them but was ok if it didn't make it. It is slowly greening up this year. Just slower than the other trees
Here is a trackhoe I rented to clear stumps. That was a fun piece of equipment to run. Rented it for one day and the rental company left it there a week so it did alot of work. |
