Have had to use them many time due to cust. "self" fix's as well! napa made some nice sizes and sells refill kits to boot! on a side note... they work equally well to repair stripped out and damaged aluminum oil pans as well.. god bless the inept do-it-to-yourselfers..lol

I use the insert style instead of the heli-coil. Never had one come loose yet.

there are two kinds of thread repair kits out there one that looks like a spring and one that is solid with threads inside and out this is the beast for spark plugs

make sure if you use a heli-coil that you let it seal up for around 24 hours depending on the sealer you use before trying to start it.

Any auto supply store like NAPA will have spark plug hole repair inserts.

Take the head off. You don't want any cuttings to get into the conmbustion chamber.

Heli-coils have saved my bacon more than once. Here is a little article for your consideration.

Inserts will work, but you have to be carefull of it forever after.

I have a head from the original engine out of my BIG TEN, since thats about all thats left of it I dont really need it. PM me if interested.

Glad you got your snow cleared.

I thought there were inserts available to repair threads.

Threads can be realigned with something like a thread follower. If too badly damaged, should be able to procure a replacement head from eBay.
