I think some big dollar ebay and CL sales have brought a lot of this old stuff, that's sitting in barns and garages, to the attention of a non-using owner. I have junk that has been in Grandpa's barn for 30 years, and if I saw some of it fetching $400, I'd be listing it for sale too! =]

I paid $250 for one of mine and was given the other. So that's an average of $125 per working unit! Show him this thread!! :) When I got my first one over a year ago it seemed they were pretty rare, but I think there are more out there than I originally thought. Just got to look for them. It's worth what someone is willing to pay...

Yes, thats the one I was looking into buying, he failed to mention it being locked up to me. I saw it listed on the Unofficial Allis site.

Ha, you just drove the price up for it by showing that the market would bear more. LOL. :)

I drove an hour and half for mine, and paid much more =] I drove a half hour for the other I had, and also paid much more.

I would gamble on only having to knock her apart, clean up some rust, give it some grease and having it work if it were that close to me. Throw $200 at him becasue it doesnt work, and quote some of the $300 prices for working units that have been seen on ebay. That gives you some wiggle room if you need to have an arbor worked on. Bearings are a common part # that you can get anywhere.

They are an unbeatable attachment....

Yeah, who know's what 'locked up' means. And parts for them are not readily available....

Its the same one, and the one that Split51 was trying to get someone to pick up and ship for him in the Yakin section. The CL ad says that it is locked up from "sitting so long," but who really knows. He is about 1 1/2 hrs from me, but at $250, and untold potential problems...

Is that the one that was listed here, and over on ST? It mentioned being 'locked up', and I'm curious just how so. The listings for it on the sites was pulled yesterday...
