Now to decide where to use it.

Posted - 09/25/2011 : 13:57:52 Phil, I believe they use an 8 bottom plow most of the time but do have a 12 bottom also. They go pretty deep with that thing, too... |

Posted - 09/25/2011 : 06:36:40 Good to hear about the roots, My lawn is ringed by ancient oaks and rock maples, and wouldn't be surprised to catch a root or two in the 10" range |

Posted - 09/24/2011 : 20:55:32 We pulled my 10" plow behind the 716 with no wieght or chains, and the oak roots were snapping like crazy...I was sure we'd snap my homemade sleeve hitch, but it never gave way. Nice thing about no weight or aggressive traction is you're not going to snag something and pop an axle tube. We'd spin a touch on the 3" roots, but 2" and under just popped and snapped! It was pretty neat...something the folks in the 'burbs weren't used to seeing. =] |

Thanks Phil, Good iformation. I anticapate tree roots are going to be a problem the first time. I think roots from hardwoods (AND Byrons rock) beat the heck out of tractor and roto-tiller both. I'm anticapating the plow, especially if I do a 2000 square foot garden will be much easier on the tractors.
if you plow every year it will pretty well take care of the roots but I have been told that the rocks work their way to the surface so you end up picking out new rocks every year.
Thats why we have stone walls all over the place. The annual spring crop of rocks. |

Hey Rob, do you put anything on your B110 for traction? B10Dave thought my B210 with weights and chains would work as well as anything.
Hey Phil, I very definitly have a use for the plow, I have had a garden most years and would have last, but I set my 36" tiller on my 7016-6 last spring which blew up after 30' and in front of a small crowd. :( I have 2 sets of disks to clean up after the plow, and I was thinking 12 x 30 or something to start, but if I want to sacrifise turf it can go up to 40 x 250 or so. The 210 also has roto-tiller so something will happen. :)
larry the only plowing ive done was for the dog fence and i only went down 6" so my skinny 250 pound a$$ was plenty of weight . when i get the loaded ags for the 3212h i think only a tree itself will stop it

Posted - 09/24/2011 : 10:33:11 Once I get around to plowing, there's never enough ground! Every several years, we'll have a corn field invaded by a specific type of vine (can't remember the name for sure...nightshade?)and we need to turn it under. One of these days it may get turned by a bunch of garden tractors! I would love to have a big gathering of you guys, but with Mom & Dad's ongoing health issues, I just don't have the time nor mind to put one together. Larry could come down & bring that ROCK to Byron if I ever get to sponsor a plow day! |

Had you sent that rock 3 years ago like you said, it wouldn't be a problem for you anylonger...
