You may have seen my other thread about picking this tractor up, well it looks we have successfully saved another one from becoming a prius, yaris, or maybe a toaster. This thread is going to be kind of a time-line of progress, so it may get lengthy at times.

*Little bit of history*
This is all we know, some deadbeat renters used it to mow the lawn, then for whatever reason parked it out back behind a shed. Homeowner was having his brother pick it up for scrap metal in a few days but we were able to pay him $50 to let us keep it. This tractor also served as a house at one time, because behind the dash was filled to the top of the gas tank with nuts/dirt.

Overall this tractor is going to be a good tractor once i put a little more work into it. So far the engine, trans, and hydraulics all work great. I've been wanting another 12 hp tractor around here and this thing is really going to fit the bill.

Needs:
Seat
paint(maybe)
tires
battery
exhaust
carb parts
lights need wired in
wheel bearings
gas tank
More attachments :)

Has to be a Magnetron if it sparks without points.

I'm always amazed at how these old machines keep running and running without proper maintenance, and then sometimes just need a good cleaning.

The Simplicity 3112H is a truly exceptional machine from the Briggs 12 horse to the Vickers hydro, and everything in between. Worth every bit of effort.

Looking forward to more pictures!

Magnetron ignition I believe

Havn't really done anything with this latelly, motor is ready to go back in, but i started a new job and the tractor is 2 hours away so it's untouched for a while. I am busy ordering parts for it though. picked up a stack, ag tires are on their way, and a few misc. parts here n there. I have also been on the lookout for any attachments i can and a hydro lift. My "works rust removal" wound up opening up some spots in the fuel tank, so i may need a new tank now.

Something that i am still at a loss about is the ignition system on this thing. I was always told these motors could never ran without points( ie electronic ignition) I'd like to know what this setup is so i can atleast get replacement parts in the future.

OK got the cover off today and found it completely packed full of crap. I am starting to wonder how this tractor runs though, I didn't find anything like you posted snohiker. But i will keep digging around tomorrow. Got the cover for $10 and it is pretty mint. I also picked up a snowblower for it. It needs gone through and the mule drive is missing but it turns and is complete otherwise.

i found the same thing on my 64 and the critters were still home
Speedy2222 Posted - 07/14/2011 : 19:05:15
Well the bad news just keeps rolling in... pulled the motor out( by myself) and discovered what is in the picture below. But i didn't have the right puller so i couldn't get the pulley off.

does it have one of these hiding in there somewhere

Speedy2222 Posted - 07/13/2011 : 23:28:01
Another thing, i took the points cover off... and get this! it was completely empty inside, how does that work!
Speedy2222 Posted - 07/13/2011 : 20:12:49
Thanks for the offer but i am to the point now, these are the only 2 wires i need to redo( the ones i found today), other than the lighting. The rest has new connectors where it needs it and new wiring also.
snohiker Posted - 07/13/2011 : 19:57:19
well from my past experience its always good to pull the motor from a sitting tractor and evict any critters on the side note i may have a wiring harness from a 3212 if you need one let me know and ill look at it tomorrow in the light . ive gotten help from alot of guys here so ill just pass it forward to you

Well the bad news is starting to roll in! Just when i thought i had all the wiring fixed i find more melted wiring. This time going under the flywheel cover, so it looks like i may have to pull the motor out so i can get to some good wiring, or just replace it all. Also, it appears like it may not be charging right. The amp meter fluctuates back and forth +- 5 amps-10 amps at times, thou it may just be the meter.

Lookin good! It will be a worker in no time. I'd love to have a hydro...and one with a $50 price tag would be even better! =]
Speedy2222 Posted - 07/11/2011 : 21:22:02
haha, well the fuel line was from a local mower place, it's not as fluorescent as the camera makes it, i am going to get some red fuel line eventually but like the tires, i needed something temporarily. I can get you brand name on it if you are interested in it :D
B-16_IC Posted - 07/11/2011 : 21:08:47
That is definitely an improvement! Now, where did you get that fuel line!?
Speedy2222 Posted - 07/11/2011 : 20:55:19
oh also, i know it's hard to tell but in the last picture i cleaned the hood up, it looks night and day different from the rest, even though it does have alot of surface rust and the stripe is severely sun cracked. I am debating leaving it like this, and just repainting the white parts.
