Has anyone ever replaced the bushings (101040) in the drive on a #210 sickle bar. I’ve looked at some ball swivel joints but they don’t seem to be quite the right size. This is the drive linkage that attaches to the sickle bar itself.

We've alwasys been proud of our daughter for her sevice. She's been in for 8 years and is a psych tech for the navy. She works with the Marines at Camp Pendelton and even spent some time in Cuba helping babysit the detainees there. I will be sure to thank her for you.

The outer diameter of bearings were 1" which is what the hole in the linkage measured. Because of the 40 plus years of abuse the holes in the link was out of round. After a few minutes with a barrrel grinder I was able to clean them up enough to get them in. The I.D. of the bearing was 1/2" so I used a bronze bushing to get it down to 3/8". Not sure if the bronze wil hold up but time will tell. The width of the bearing was only 1/2" and since the old one was 3/4" a couple of extra washers made up the diference. I used McMaster Carr part number 63195K71 Ball Joint Bearing at a cost of $7.78 each. I will use it this weekend and see if it holds up when I mow my side ditch.

I got my sickle bar back together tonight, I was able to find a couple of new bearings from McMaster Carr. With a few minor alterations I was able to get it to work. I would have taken some pictures but the wife took the camera with her to California to visit our daughter who is stationed out there in the Navy.

What if you replaced the whole thing with a new shaft and 3/8ID hanger units?

The I.D. of the link is 1 inch, The overall height of the joint is 0.750 and it is aprox 3/8" I.D (for a 3/8 fine thread bolt.) I checked my trusty old source of McMaster Carr and I found one with a 1" O.D. but the height was 1/2" and the I.D. was also a 1/2". The center needs to swivel like a ball joint. I'm going to check with a local bearing source to see if the might me able to source one. It would be heartbreaking not to be able to fix this as it has become one of my favorite attachments.

You need part numbers 101040, 101041 and 2101042. 2101042 and 101041 look the same, but I'm guessing they must be different dimensions. I would think something out there could easily replace those, but some measurements for a fresh set would be needed to begin the search. If nothing else, the ID of your link ends could help to find a preassembled unit of some sort. I see you have calipers there, what's the ID of those link openings?
