Hello All - I've been a member of this forum for a while, but haven't had a chance to post anything. I live in western New Hampshire, and after becoming disgusted with my Regent, which broke down all last summer, I decided to give vintage garden tractors a try. I've gathered a number of Simplicity tractors. I currently have:
1966/7 Broadmoor with cutting deck - recently found in southern Connecticut - a runner. I plan to use it until one of my 3212s is done.
1970 3212V (2) I bought these last fall in Massachusetts. The better one has a cutting deck, wheel weights, snow blower and has a mismatched gas tank, which doesn't line up with the top cover. The other one has only the snow blower. Neither run, but are complete. Probably paid too much for them both, but I was new to this hobby.
Today I went back down to Mass to look at a 3212H hydro. Pretty complete, but, as with the others, rusty. It doesn't run either. I have read that the hydros are worth having, and can be a bit more reliable than the variable drive. I suppose one of the variables could be considered a parts unit. His asking price was $275 - I offered him $200, and he took it. Not much interest the fellow said.
I'm concerned about the transmissions on all these units. I didn't know enough to check for slop when I bought most of them. The hydro seems to have quite a bit of slop. But, I'm not sure if I'm checking correctly.
My question right now is - does anyone know the curb weight of the 3212H with a 48" deck? My pickup has a bad transmission, and I have asked a neighbor to help me retrieve the machine later this month. He's concerned about his already broken leaf springs in his Toyota P/U, and wants to know the approximate weight.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Sean - I love the pictures of your 3212V! I hope to get all mine that nice over the next few years.

I think the tractor with no attachments is 600lbs, add almost any attachment and your around 800. If you have weights, 650-850. Add lots of weight... 900+. Welcome. You'll find there's a maintenance curve you have to get over and then these are lots more fun. |
