I'd like to make a leaf blower for my Simplicity 7013 S Baron using an old squirrel cage furnace fan. Have any of you done that? Front or rear mount? Rear seems easier.

I don't think the air velocity is going to be high enough to get the job done. The blower wheels are built too lightly to take much in the way of modifications also. You need to find an old high velocity fan for your project.
