so my ranger used to run fine, but it sits weeks at a time, about 2 weeks ago i went to start it and it started and wouldent idle..
a few days later it idles fine and when i went to tap the gas (not all the way to the floor) and it would cut out and come back... im not sure what it could be.. a clogged injector? fuel pump?

It might be cheaper to just pour 2 qts of Mercon or Dexron in the gas tank as transmission fluid has the highest detergent qualities and will clean the carbon and injectors.

I have done that and it worked. It was an inside tip from a Ford engineer...

The OTC Flusher is basicly a tank that holds the cleaner.Connect your air compressor to the regulator on the OTC. It has an AIR Regulator on top so you can set the fuel pressure 5 psi below factory spec.(Thats so you dont blow the fuel past the regulator on your engine and back to the fuel tank)

A hose that connects to the fuel rail on your engine. You have to disable the fuel pump on your truck, VIA, pump relay or Inertia switch.

Start the engine, let your air compressor blow the cleaner through the fuel rail and injectors. This will also help remove carbon on the intake valves.

Here's a Pic...

I had a 2.9L in a Bronco II. Strong little engine. But the last one I worked on was in a Ranger. It ran something like what you discribed. I ran the KOEO and KOER test with no fault codes. I swapped out the MAP sensor which did no good. I hooked up my OTC injector flush machine and ran two bottles of Ford Injector cleaner through it. Disconnected the flusher and took it down the road at wide open throttle. It ran perfect after that.

OK, What year model? What engine?

If its a 4.0L, will need to know if its an OHV (Over head Valve) or a SOHC (Single Over Head Cam).
If its a 2.3L 4 cyl. Need to know if its dual plug. (8) sparkplugs.
And it could be a 3.0L Vulcan engine...

What ya got?

try it in the dark and get someone to look at the spark plug wires and distributor or coils for stray spark
