If you had not heard, we're getting 3-4 more months to get converted to a digital TV...

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/02/05/digital.tv.people/index.html

What idiot planned the switch over in the middle of the winter? I purchased three Accurian converters two years ago to prepare for this. I hooked them up to my TV system in my house and went from 22 channels Analog to 5 double channels digital. I lost channel 55 one January and called the engineers to find out they started early on digital. He told me when they come online officially they were going to increase power and I'd regain the station. THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET! Channel 55 was already UHF, so my antenna should be able to tune it in great! But no.

So now we are coming up to the conversion and still no increase power, still terrible spotty reception. I purchased two more converters with the $40 coupon program HOPING THOSE WORK BETTER. NOT. So I'm waiting for the Spring to climb on the roof and improve the Antenna system.

Now you'd say, why not get Cable or Satelite... I already have that in my remote home and use location shifting to get me stations from there. (SLING BOX) Though, I don't get local stations and I shut that down in the summer. I also like the freedom to say Cable company take a hike. I've done it for two years before and I want to be able to do it again.

Finally I use the ICOM-R3 portable TV to watch Analog stations as work around the home & town locally. I also listen as I travel up I95 to the North and get great mobile reception. How well will the new digital system do that? I've not found a reasonable small TV like I have that can do what I already do... Oh well, the genious who planned a February switch over hasn't thought that far ahead.

I guess it all depends on where you live. You lost channels, while I gained several. Odd, or frustrating, depending on which straw you draw.

Stan - thanks for the tip on the digital being in the hi-band VHF... I'm going to look into this a little deeper soon. Glad we got the delay because I'm not climbing on an icy roof.

I was talking to my antenna installer about a new antenna, some stations can not increase power until analog stops ( FCC ). You mention UHF, some digital are in the hi-band VHF.
Stan
