My dad once told me that in Europe during WWII when petrol was scarce many cars had these generators on the back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTqXYp28DDc

Be pretty hard to fit a FEL on there!

When I saw this on the other forum I also thought of the generators that I had seen looking through old WWII photos. From what I read the engines didn't run real great but run they did. In hard times that is all that counts.
